Honourable Delegates, Distinguished Faculty Advisors and Dear Friends,
It is my utmost pleasure and honour to welcome you to the second edition of the annual Heidelberg MUN Conference, HDMUN 2017, organized by the Heidelberg MUN Society. The conference will take place from the 8th to the 11th of June at the Ruprecht Karls University in the beautiful city of Heidelberg.
The theme of HDMUN 2017 is “Beyond Globalization”. Winds of social, economic and cultural change are blowing across the globe, with political cynicism and economic imbalances eroding unity and promoting dissonance between nations. Do these developments signal the end of a globalised free market? Will nationalism and seclusion supersede multinational unions, with states pursuing own agendas rather than working on joint solutions? These are the questions to which we will strive to find answers - in this conference and in the years to come.
Delegates will have the opportunity to debate all aspects of the issues at hand in six committees, with each covering topics relating to cultural, social, economic or political implications of the different issues at hand. The Presidential Summit is the central committee of the conference and will deal with all the issues in a general manner, whereas the other committees will provide you with the opportunity to work on a more specific range of issues.
What will make HDMUN 2017 a truly realistic and entertaining experience, however, is the complete interconnectivity of all committees. As time goes on, political and economic situations will change and impact countries in all committees, with our experienced Crisis Team simulating and introducing real time crises and developments at all times. Maintaining steady communication and formulating cohesive strategies across all committees will be the challenge for delegates representing a country’s delegation.
Heidelberg, with its history, students from all across the globe and charm, provides the perfect location for HDMUN 2017. Many social events and amazing people await you in this wonderful city, where you will surely have an experience for the ages!
