Ruperto-Carola University of Heidelberg
Founded in 1386, the University of Heidelberg is the oldest university in modern-day Germany, and it is populated by several romantic-styled buildings, bearing witness to the city's long history. A plethora of intellectuals has studied, taught or researched at the University, including personalities such as Hannah Arendt, Hans-Georg Gadamer, Karl Jaspers, Max Weber, Helmut Kohl. Today, the university stands 1st in Germany and 37th worldwide in the lates ranking in the "Best Global Universities" ranking.

One of the three campuses of the University of Heidelberg, the "Neue Uni" is easily seen from the Hauptstraße. In front of it you will see a vast square, very appropiately named "University Square".
