HDMUN 2020

Unfortunately, HDMUN 2020 had to be postponed due to COVID-19.
Please read.
Dear prospective participants of HDMUN 2020,

After a long and careful consideration, we, the Secretariat of HDMUN 2020, have decided to postpone this year’s edition of Model United Nations of Heidelberg until further notice. While we didn´t take this step lightly, we felt like it would be inappropriate for us to continue the planning of our conference in light of the Covid-19 pandemic that has now spread throughout Europe and the world.

Just last weekend the Federal Government of Germany announced further steps to combat the virus that include restrictions on public gatherings and international travel. In accordance with the recommendations by the WHO and the European Union, we have made the conscious decision to no longer have our conference take place in May of this year, as we consider everyone’s health and safety to be our utmost priority.

While we are very sad to inform you about the measures that needed to be taken in regards of the situation, we remain optimistic about the future. We are postponing HDMUN until 2021 and will announce the new dates as soon as we can on our social media channels and our website. We want to thank our student officers, sponsors, guest speakers and everyone involved into this project, for all their effort, hard work, commitment and willingness to create something of value.

It is our responsibility to preserve the spirit of HDMUN and we are hopeful that we will welcome everyone to Heidelberg under better circumstances next year. In case of an already paid conference fee, we will contact you in the coming days. We will be able to refund the conference fee for MyMUN, but we will not be able to provide you with a refund for the MyMUN service fee.

If you have questions regarding the conference or the postponement, feel free to reach out to us via info@hdmun.org.

We will keep on working relentlessly to bring you an even better and a more refined edition of HDMUN next year! We hope to see all of you at HDMUN 2021 and wish you all the best until then.

Stay healthy and help #flattenthecurve!

Yours sincerely,
The HDMUN 2020 Secretariat

HDMUN 2019

The conference
The third edition of the Heidelberg MUN Conference took place at the Neue Universität in Heidelberg from the 30th of May to the 2nd of June 2019. We welcomed delegates from all over Germany, Europe and the world to debate our slogan of "redefining order". The delegates got to work in five committees: the Presidential Summit, the Security Council, the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Economic and Social Council. All committees were -just like in the previous editions of HDMUN- interconnected. They did not only deal successfully with their committees' topics but also with the events that the crisis team came up with. It was an overall exciting experience for everybody involved and we are happy to have continued with our trademark concept interconnectivity.

Guest speakers
We were honoured to have been able to welcome Hans-Christof von Sponeck. He worked as a UN Assistant Secretary-General, UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq (ret.) and gave the keynote speech. Afterwards we had a panel discussion with Justin Halpern (Vice Consul for Political and Economic Affairs at the U.S. Consulate Frankfurt) and Max Jungmann - a young entrepreneur and start-up founder. They elaborated on their understanding of our slogan "redefining order".
Socials
The goal of the secretariat was to not only organize a conference with high academic standards but also a social one. The social events offered our delegates the chance to get to know each other better and maybe do some lobbying. After a karaoke night on the first evening that challenged the delegates and chairs to let out their inner Beyonce, we spend the second night in the Bürgerhaus Bahnstadt. The last evening we watched the fireworks of the "Schlossbeleuchtung" and partied at the Karlstorbahnhof.

The conference
The second edition of the Heidelberg MUN Conference took place at the Neue Universitaet and the Institute of Psychology in Heidelberg from the 8-11th of June 2017. We welcomed delegates from all over Germany and the world. The delegates got to work in four committees; the Presidential Summit, the World Trade Organization, UNESCO and DISEC that were once again interconnected. They did not only deal successfully with their committees' topics but also with the events that the crisis team came up with. It was an overall exciting experience for everybody involved and we are happy to continue with our trademark concept namely interconnectivity.
Guest speakers
We were honored to welcome Dr. Ekkehard Griep, the Deputy President of the United Nations Association of Germany, as our key note speaker during the Opening Ceremony.
Dr. Griep has been at the forefront of the Association's public relation activities and endeavour to increase broader civic sense for the work of the UN.
With his critical analyses of the UN's work, he has been instrumental in leading the discussion on the further development and the future of the UN.
His speech greatly inspired our delegates in they work during the next following days.

Socials
Once again the socials offered some highlights during the conference too giving delegates the opportunity to get to know each other better and maybe do some lobbying. After a fun Pub Quiz during the first night that challenged the delegates and chairs with tricky questions about the world, the delegates were offered a relaxed evening at Gunnars, a popular local bar for students to mingle and enjoy a blue cocktail, followed by our big HDMUN and friends party on Saturday.

HDMUN 2016

The conference
The first edition of the Heidelberg MUN Conference took place at the Neue Universitaet in Heidelberg from the 12-15th of May 2016. We welcomed 140 delegates from more than 20 countries worldwide. The delegates had the unique experience of debating in seven interconnected committees. The challenge of cooperating with delegates in other committees and working on mutual strategies made for a thoroughly exciting conference.

Guest speakers
HDMUN 2016 was lucky to have Mr. Sayed Yusuf Almuhafdah as the guest speaker at the conference. Mr. Almuhafdah is the Vice President of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights and has been at the forefront of the fight against human rights violations in Bahrain. Speaking to the delegates, he gave an insight into the civil rights situation in Bahrain and helped delegates understand the importance of fundamental human rights.
Socials
HDMUN 2016 would not have been the success it was without the wonderful all the wonderful people that attended and our well-organized social events. At our Pub Crawl, delegates had the chance to get to know each other and the old city of Heidelberg. The day after, we had dinner and a pub quiz at the Cafe Chez Pierre and celebrated a successful conference at our last night with a gala Titanic style at the Capitol.
